Growth, development and revaluing of Buenos Aires Historical Quarter .... The actual old city of Buenos Aires goes around for about a 25 blocks covering the neighborhoods of San Nicolas, Monserrat, San Telmo, Constitucion and Barracas. In this radius, we find most of Buenos Aires historical and antique buildings, actually a total of 848 of them were declared of Patrimonial value to the city. The city’s government has developed a local plan of Historical Quarter Management in order to protect and improve this urban space. So far works have began to meliorate sidewalks, create new green spaces with local tree species such as linden trees, jacarandas and plum trees, and embellish the area nearby the Plaza de Mayo from Peru St to Balcarce. This Southern historical corridor of the city has grown and developed greatly since then. According to the Center of Studies of the Metropolitan Economical Development, throughout the last ten years the area grew a 40%, and its still developing at a great rate. Experts calculate that every weekend over 15000 visitors head to this area. This Commission of Historical and Cultural Patrimony recuperation aims to work in order to recuperate, research, create documentation, conserve and increase the social and cultural value of this area. In this sense, the experts have begun to develop a documented library and publish the inputs of the efforts. The results of years of hard work have materialized in the Atlas of Immaterial Patrimony, Registry Culturally interesting sites and Murals of Buenos Aires.
